Phoenix Picture Book Award

About this program

The Children’s Literature Association (ChLA) presents the Phoenix Picture Book Award annually to recognize an exemplary children’s picture book whose story is conveyed through the synergy of pictures and text, or through pictures alone. The award honors a book published 20 years earlier that did not receive a major publication-time award but merits special attention in retrospect; nominations are open to anyone and are due by October 1 each year. Eligible books must have been originally published in English, may be in or out of print, and may be authored or illustrated by living or deceased creators. Books that have won specified major awards, including the Caldecott Medal or Honor, Coretta Scott King Award, Carnegie Medal, or Kate Greenaway Medal, are ineligible.
