Post-PhD Research Grant

About this program

The Wenner-Gren Foundation offers Post-PhD Research Grants of up to US$25,000 to support innovative anthropological research, including fieldwork, laboratory, archival, museum, and other appropriate research activities. Funds may cover essential research expenses, participant or community compensation, supplies, equipment, and limited medical insurance, but not salary, overhead, publication costs, or unrelated travel. Applicants must have a strong connection to anthropology, holding a PhD in anthropology or an equivalent degree, or a related doctorate accompanied by an academic appointment in anthropology. Applications must present theoretically grounded, feasible research plans—including contingency methods if travel or in-person research becomes impossible—and address required permits, ethical approvals, and broader contributions to anthropology.
