Preserving Black Churches

About this program

The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund offers Preserving Black Churches grants of $50,000 to $500,000 to support capital projects, programming, interpretation, capacity building, planning, and financial sustainability. The program is designed to preserve historic Black houses of worship and strengthen the congregations and communities they serve. Eligible applicants are historic Black churches with active congregations or churches being repurposed for new community uses, as well as eligible preservation or community partners; applications are due September 11, 2026.
