About this program

The California Wildlife Conservation Board’s Public Access Program provides funding for statewide planning and construction projects that expand equitable access to natural areas, wildlife-oriented recreation, and nature-focused education. Eligible activities include hunting, fishing, birdwatching, hiking, cycling, and environmental education, with priority for projects delivering broad public benefits and supporting disadvantaged communities. Nonprofits, public agencies, and tribal governments may apply; cost sharing is not required but can strengthen applications. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, with awards supporting projects for up to five years.
