Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants

About this program

The New York Foundation for the Arts, with support from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, offers one-time grants of up to $5,000 for recent, unexpected medical, dental, or mental health emergencies affecting artists’ ability to continue their practice. Eligible expenses include the artist’s out-of-pocket treatment, diagnostic, prescription, and transportation costs; Medicare/Medicaid recipients may request documented living expenses instead. Applicants must be at least 21, U.S.-based, not enrolled in a degree program, and have an average adjusted gross income of no more than $80,000 ($160,000 for joint filers), while demonstrating at least five years of sustained public activity as a generative artist in choreography, digital/electronic arts, video/film, or visual arts. The next application cycle opens August 18, 2026, and closes September 15, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET; applicants cannot have received a Rauschenberg Emergency Grant within the past five years.
