Request for Proposals to Organize the 2027 Summer Institute on Democracy from the Margins

The Russell Sage Foundation seeks proposals to organize its 2027 Summer Institute on Democracy from the Margins, supporting a one- to two-week multidisciplinary institute on democratic life, civic engagement, and political institutions as experienced by marginalized communities. Grants of up to $200,000, plus 15% indirect costs, may cover participant and instructor travel, meals, lodging, and honoraria. Applicants must form a multidisciplinary team of doctoral-level principal investigators and co-investigators, including at least one full professor or equivalent, and propose recruitment of a diverse cohort of PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and recent PhD graduates. Proposals, including a curriculum, outreach plan, budget, budget narrative, and CVs, are due through RSF’s Fluxx portal by 2 p.m. ET on October 1, 2026.
