About this program
The West Virginia Research Challenge Fund, administered through the West Virginia Science and Research Council’s STaR Division, supports large STEM-focused research projects that build institutional research capacity, pursue external funding, and potentially establish research centers or promote economic development. Cost-reimbursable awards provide up to $1.3 million over five years, with an estimated two to three awards. Full-time faculty and research professors at four-year institutions of higher education in West Virginia are eligible to apply. Funding is contingent on State Research Challenge Fund availability and approval by the West Virginia Science and Research Council; proposal and award dates are not currently available.
