About this program
The Center for the History of Family Medicine, sponsored by the AAFP Foundation, offers an annual essay contest recognizing scholarly writing on the history of family medicine in the United States. First place receives $2,000 and second place receives $1,000. Applicants must be medical students or residents and members of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Entries must be original, English-language essays of no more than 3,750 words, formatted in AMA style, and submitted with a CV or résumé between August 15 and November 1, 2026.
