Rising Explorer Grant

About this program

The Explorers Club offers Rising Explorer Grants averaging $2,000 to support student-led field research that generates new scientific knowledge in areas such as biology, conservation, environmental science, archaeology, anthropology, and marine or freshwater studies. Applicants must be high school students, college undergraduates, or independent researchers at an equivalent level, and may apply from anywhere in the world; Explorers Club membership is not required. Proposals must include a clear research plan, timeline, detailed budget, field location, dissemination strategy, two letters of support, and information on required permits and ethical considerations; projects may not be solely adventure trips or school field excursions. Applications for the 2027 cycle are due August 31, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. ET.
