The Engineering Mechanics Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), with funding from Johns Hopkins University, offers the Robert H. Scanlan Medal to recognize distinguished achievements in engineering mechanics through scholarly contributions to theory and practice. The award consists of a medal and generally honors cumulative contributions in structural mechanics, wind engineering, or aerodynamics, though exceptional single contributions may qualify. Nominees may be from any nationality and need not be ASCE members; each individual may receive the medal only once.
