Robert Hansen Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition

The National Opera Association (NOA) offers the Robert Hansen Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition to recognize artistic excellence in college and university opera and musical theatre programs through anonymous video submissions and live finalist performances at the January 2027 National Conference in Minneapolis. Winners in three divisions receive recognition and awards; applications are due by 5:00 p.m. CST on October 15, 2026, with a $25 entry fee per scene. Eligible applicants are college or university programs, or faculty members, affiliated with NOA, submitting scenes performed or recorded between October 15, 2025, and October 15, 2026, with no more than two scenes per division. Finalist singers must be current students, meet the applicable age-division requirements, and the director and singers must register for the conference.
