SAH Publication Awards

About this program

The Society of Architectural Historians offers annual Publication Awards recognizing the most distinguished books, exhibition catalogues, articles, and films on architectural, urban, landscape, and preservation history, including named prizes such as the Alice Davis Hitchcock Book Award, Spiro Kostof Book Award, Elisabeth Blair MacDougall Book Award, Exhibition Catalogue Award, Founders’ JSAH Article Award, Historic Interiors Article Award, and the SAH Award for Film and Video. The 2027 nomination cycle is open and nomination forms must be completed by September 15, 2026. Eligible entries are scholarly publications or media addressing the built environment published within each award’s specified timeframe (consult individual award guidelines for exact publication windows and submission materials). Note that the Alice Davis Hitchcock Award is limited to North American scholars, and the Founders’ Award considers JSAH articles published in the prior two years (eligible authors are contacted to submit a CV).
