SCS Award for Excellence in Teaching (College Level) - 2026

About this program

The Society for Classical Studies (SCS) seeks nominations for the 2026 SCS Award for Excellence in Teaching (College Level); one to three winners will each receive a $500 cash prize and their institution $200 for educational resources (gift of Daniel and Joanna Rose), with awards announced at the SCS Annual Meeting (virtual participation possible). Nominees must be individual SCS members with at least five years of teaching experience (excluding graduate TA assignments) in broadly classical fields; prior winners are ineligible. Nominations are due via the SCS application system by October 31, 2026 and must include: a letter of nomination (preferably not self-nomination, max 3 pages), the candidate’s CV (≤5 pages), a teaching philosophy statement (≤3 pages), two syllabi with assignments, complete student evaluations for two courses, and 2–4 student/alumni questionnaires or substitute letters.
