SHGAPE Research Grant

About this program

The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (SHGAPE) offers one annual research grant of up to $1,500 to support research on any aspect of U.S. history from 1865 through the 1920s. Funds may be used for eligible research expenses incurred between January 2027 and January 2028, with the recipient recognized at the 2027 Organization of American Historians meeting and contributing a piece to the SHGAPE Blog. Applicants must be advanced doctoral students, independent scholars, or contingent faculty who are SHGAPE members, and proposals will be evaluated for originality, historical significance, and feasibility. Applications, including a five-page CV, a proposal of no more than 750 words, an estimated budget, and required doctoral-status documentation, are due October 31, 2026.
