Simons Fellows in Mathematics

About this program

The Simons Foundation’s Mathematics and Physical Sciences division offers Simons Fellowships in Mathematics to extend eligible faculty members’ sabbaticals to a full academic year devoted to theoretical mathematics research. Awards provide up to 50% salary replacement, capped at $125,000, plus up to $10,000 in leave-related expenses; up to 50 fellowships are expected for 2026. Applicants must hold a tenured, primary position in a mathematics department at a U.S. or Canadian college or university, maintain an active research program, and receive institutional approval for a full-year leave with at least 50% of salary supported by the home institution. Applications are due through SAM by noon Eastern Time on October 1, 2026, with awards beginning between July 1, 2027, and January 1, 2028.
