Sloan Research Fellowships

About this program

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation offers two-year, $75,000 Sloan Research Fellowships to support fundamental research by outstanding early-career scientists in chemistry, computer science, Earth system science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, physics, and related fields. Funds may support research-related expenses, including staffing, travel, equipment, laboratory costs, and summer salary, but may not cover indirect costs. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent, serve in a tenure-track faculty position with regular teaching responsibilities at a degree-granting institution in the United States or Canada, and be untenured as of September 15, 2026. Candidates must be nominated by a department head or senior researcher and submit required application materials, including a CV, representative publications, research statement, and three support letters, by September 15, 2026.
