Society for the Humanities Fellowships (2027-28) — Theme: PLAY

About this program

The Society for the Humanities at Cornell University invites faculty to apply for year‑long residential fellowships for 2027–28 to support interdisciplinary humanities research and seminar teaching centered on the theme PLAY. Fellows will join a campus intellectual community, teach a one‑semester seminar, and pursue critical work on play across fields such as literature, anthropology, performance, media, game studies, and related disciplines. Applicants must hold the Ph.D. awarded before January 1, 2026, have at least one year of teaching experience (including as a graduate student), and propose research and a seminar that engage the focal theme; international scholars may apply subject to visa eligibility. Complete applications (CV, 1‑page abstract, 1,000–2,000 word research statement, course proposal and syllabus, one paper up to 35 pages, and two senior letters) must be submitted via AJO #32054 by September 1, 2026; awards announced by December 2026.
