About this program

The Georgia Department of Agriculture, administering USDA/AMS Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP) funds, supports projects that enhance the competitiveness of Georgia specialty crops through research, education, and marketing; the 2026 application window is closed and the 2027 RFA is expected around February 1, 2027. Eligible specialty crops include fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, Christmas trees, turf/sod, and nursery/greenhouse crops (including floriculture), and current Georgia priorities emphasize increased consumption in schools, specialty crop food safety, improved production practices, marketability and sales, and research. Applicants must be Georgia-headquartered grower associations, commodity commissions, colleges, universities, state/local governments, or IRS-designated non-profits (first-time non-profits must partner with a Georgia college/university PI, preferably UGA or FVSU); individuals and businesses (including farms) are ineligible. Projects previously submitted twice without funding cannot be resubmitted; applicants should review USDA/AMS and GDA guidance and may contact grants@agr.georgia.gov with questions.
