Stanford R. Ovshinsky Sustainable Energy Fellowship

The American Physical Society (through its Topical Group on Energy Research and Application) offers the Stanford R. Ovshinsky Sustainable Energy Fellowship, a $15,000 award paid to the recipient’s institution plus a travel allowance and certificate to support promising exploratory research in energy sustainability with viable commercial potential. Funded work should advance materials, methodologies, or cost‑effective energy conversion and storage technologies (e.g., photovoltaics, hydrogen fuel cells, rechargeable batteries), with preference for projects demonstrating entrepreneurial potential. Eligible nominees are early‑career researchers—no more than ten years post‑Ph.D. (including graduate students, postdocs, and junior faculty) or ≤40 years old if no Ph.D.—and must be nominated. Nomination packages (due 1 September 2026 via the APS Honors Nomination Site) must include a cover letter, 200‑word abstract, project description (≤2,500 words), budget and justification (≤2 pages; no institutional overhead), biographical sketch, two recommendation letters, and a signed institutional commitment letter.
