Steel Intern Scholarships (AIST Foundation)

About this program

The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) Foundation’s Steel Intern Scholarship program awards up to 50 one‑year scholarships of US$7,500 (US$4,500 NHIC) and a US$12,000 Premier Scholarship to the top applicant, each preceded by a required paid summer internship at a North American steel-producing or steel-related company. Applications for 2027–2028 are being accepted through 5 October 2026; AIST will assist with internship placement but recipients may self-place if the internship is pre-approved. Eligible applicants must be citizens of a USMCA country (USA, Canada, Mexico), enrolled full‑time at an accredited North American university (sophomore, junior, or seniors entering first‑year graduate study) in engineering/engineering technology, computer/data science, environmental/sustainability, or safety programs, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, not be working full‑time, and be willing to relocate for the internship. Required English PDF materials include a resume, a two‑page essay, a transcript, and at least one recommendation letter (company and discipline‑professor letters preferred); scholarship continuation requires a satisfactory internship performance review and maintenance of the GPA.
