Targeted Grants to Institutes

About this program

The Simons Foundation’s Mathematics and Physical Sciences division offers Targeted Grants to Institutes to strengthen established institutes’ and centers’ international scientific connections in mathematics and theoretical basic physical sciences. Awards provide up to $750,000 over three years, with support for activities such as visiting researchers, postdoctoral fellows, conferences, workshops, and scientific exchanges; applications are due September 30, 2026, at noon Eastern time. Eligible applicants are established U.S. or foreign public or private educational and nonprofit institutes or research centers with physical facilities, excluding national laboratories focused primarily on experiments and centers serving mainly as research hubs for a single university’s faculty. Institutes in China, fiscal sponsors or agents of Chinese institutions, and Simons Foundation or Flatiron Institute employees as funded project personnel are ineligible.
