The Mignon Waterman Award

About this program

The Montana Healthcare Foundation offers the $10,000 Mignon Waterman Award to recognize an individual’s innovation, leadership, partnership development, broad impact, and contributions to improving behavioral health in Montana. The award honors Mignon Waterman’s legacy of strengthening mental health and substance use disorder services, with the recipient’s employing organization accepting the funds on their behalf. Nominations must be submitted by Montana-based nonprofit organizations, universities, state or local agencies, or tribal governments; 2026 nominations are open August 3–September 15. Nominees should demonstrate meaningful leadership, collaboration, innovative solutions, and measurable progress in Montana’s behavioral health system.
