Tire-Derived Aggregate Grant Program

About this program

The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) offers Tire-Derived Aggregate grants to support civil engineering projects that use shredded tires as lightweight, free-draining alternatives to conventional aggregates, while diverting waste tires from landfills and illegal dumping. Approximately $750,000 is available, with reimbursement awards ranging from $1 to $375,000 and no matching funds required, for eligible projects such as retaining walls, stormwater mitigation, slope stabilization, rail vibration mitigation, and landfill applications.

Eligible applicants include California local and state government entities, special districts, public school districts, public universities and colleges, qualifying tribal entities, eligible nonprofit organizations, and California-based or California-operating for-profit businesses. Applications are due October 15, 2026, and funded projects must end by April 1, 2029.
