About this program

The Royal Society’s University Research Fellowship (URF) funds outstanding early-career scientists to establish independent research programs at UK universities or research institutions, providing up to £1.87 million over eight years (with a mid‑fellowship review affecting years 6–8) for salary, research expenses, equipment, PhD studentships and relocation/visa costs. Eligible applicants normally have 3–8 years post-PhD experience (excluding career breaks), must not hold a permanent post or have previously held an equivalent independent-research fellowship, and conduct research within the Royal Society’s natural sciences remit.
