VESS Resident Research Award – Basic and Translational Research (BTR) 2027

About this program

The Vascular & Endovascular Surgery Society (VESS) offers one $20,000 Resident Research Award — Basic and Translational Research (BTR) to support a resident-led basic or translational project during protected academic development time, with the goal of fostering future extramural funding and a career as a surgeon–scientist. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in an accredited general or integrated vascular surgery residency and must identify a VESS Active Member as the dedicated research mentor, sponsor, or collaborative investigator; applicants may not hold similar resident grants from other societies. Research must be completed within 12 months and award funds may only be used for direct research costs (no salaries, benefits, overhead), with up to $1,000 permitted for travel to present results. Submit a single PDF (introductory letter addressing dual funding and development plan, VESS member letter of support, NIH biosketches, title/abstract, 7‑page proposal, budget/justification, and citations) by October 1, 2026; the awardee is expected to accept and present at the 2027 VESS Annual Winter Meeting.
