Victor J. Dzau Emerging Leaders in Health and Medicine Scholars

About this program

The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) selects up to 10 Victor J. Dzau Emerging Leaders in Health and Medicine Scholars annually for three-year terms, providing leadership development through mentoring, cross-sector collaboration, NAM activities, and opportunities to contribute to health and medicine priorities. Scholars may also publish Perspectives and participate in National Academies convenings and interest groups while remaining at their primary institutions. Candidates must hold a terminal degree or equivalent experience, generally be 5–15 years beyond their primary professional degree, demonstrate significant achievement, creativity, and leadership potential, and be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Nominations must be submitted by NAM members, who may nominate up to three candidates, during the September 15–October 30, 2026, nomination period.
