VT-REEL Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (Securing Our Food)

About this program

Virginia Tech's VT-REEL (Research and Extension Experiential Learning) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship funds a 10-week hands-on plant science and agricultural research experience addressing food, fiber, and fuel needs, providing a $6,000 stipend, an on‑campus meal plan, and dormitory housing for out-of-state fellows (housing also provided while at ARECs); fellows are responsible for vehicle-related expenses. Participants work in laboratory, greenhouse, or field projects as part of an interdisciplinary team with two faculty mentors (at least one affiliated with the Translational Plant Sciences Center), engage in professional development including an AREC tour and workshops, and present findings at Virginia Tech’s summer research symposium. Eligible applicants are undergraduate students interested in applying life sciences education to plant and agricultural research; Virginia Tech students may apply but those with active off‑campus leases will not receive dormitory housing, and students needing travel assistance should contact the Program Faculty Director.
