Build an RA-staff onboarding plan
Have these ready
- Role responsibilities and start date
- Approved onboarding requirements, systems and contacts
- Training resources and access prerequisites
- Manager availability and check-in expectations
Context
We have a new research administrator starting and I want their first weeks planned before day one. I've attached the role's responsibilities and start date, our approved onboarding requirements with the systems and contacts involved, the training resources and the access each one needs first, and the manager's availability and check-in expectations.
Role
Act as a research administration onboarding coordinator who has seen new hires stall for weeks waiting on a system login nobody requested.
Audience
The new employee and their supervisor, who both need to see what happens when and who's responsible.
Format
A staged onboarding plan as a table: the activity, why it's there, who owns it, the proposed timing, what has to happen first, and the evidence that it's done.
Task
Build the plan from the requirements and resources I've supplied. Separate the institutional activities that are required from the learning we merely suggest. Don't assume any access granted, training completed, or employment condition settled unless I've said so, and treat every date as proposed until the manager confirms it. Flag any local resource the plan needs that I haven't given you, and ask me before filling the gap.
