About this program
The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), sponsored by Michele Orr in memory of her sister Alice Orr Sprague, offers the A. Orr Fantasy Grant to support writers of completed middle grade or young adult speculative fiction manuscripts. The winner receives tuition to the SCBWI Summer Conference and a $600 cash award. Applicants must be current SCBWI members at submission and announcement, may not have a traditionally published or contracted work, and may submit only one unpublished manuscript annually. Submissions are accepted May 1–31 and must include a PDF with a 250-word maximum synopsis and the first 10 pages of a completed novel; picture books are ineligible.
