AAG Research Grants

About this program

The American Association of Geographers (AAG) offers AAG Research Grants—small awards of up to $500 to support direct research and fieldwork expenses in geography (salary and institutional overhead are ineligible); applications are due by midnight EST on November 15, 2026, with decisions roughly three months after the deadline. Awards cover only direct project costs and are not available for master's or doctoral dissertation research. Applicants must have been AAG members for at least two years at the time of application and comply with the AAG Professional Conduct Policy. The selection committee favors proposals addressing major disciplinary questions that are likely to attract substantial subsequent support; recipients must submit a one-page report, document expenses, and acknowledge AAG support.
