AAG Research Grants

About this program

The American Association of Geographers (AAG) offers Research Grants of up to $500 to cover direct research and fieldwork expenses for geographic projects; funds may not be used for salary or institutional overhead and do not support master’s or doctoral dissertation research. Applications are due November 15, 2026, with decisions announced about three months later and grants typically distributed by late spring. Applicants must have been AAG members for at least two years at the time of application, and proposals should show promise of attracting substantial subsequent support and address questions of major importance to the discipline. Recipients must submit a one-page report documenting activities and expenses, acknowledge AAG support, and comply with the AAG Professional Conduct Policy or risk rescission of awards.
