AAST Sprint Grant

About this program

The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) offers Sprint Grants to accelerate high‑impact multicenter trauma and emergency general surgery studies—prioritizing quasi‑experimental designs that support causal inference—with awards up to $30,000 to cover IRB fees, biostatistical support, per‑patient/site costs, data management, and related expenses (PI salary is generally not allowable except for biostatistical analysis). Projects addressing AAST‑identified priority questions or fully developed proposals ready to initiate enrollment will be favored, and methodological rigor is required; teams should include a biostatistician experienced in quasi‑experimental methods (AAST may assist in locating one if requested by May 26). Research must be conducted in the United States and/or Canada, and the principal investigator must be an AAST fellow or Attending associate member in good standing with an academic title of Assistant, Associate, or Professor; residents, fellows, and postdoctoral associates may serve only as co‑investigators. Applications are submitted electronically between May 4 and June 15 (awardees announced July 6), and recipients must submit abstract findings to AAST in February 2027 for potential presentation at the September 2027 annual meeting.
