ABSA Fund for Avian Research (FAR)

About this program

The Australian Bird Study Association Inc. administers the ABSA Fund for Avian Research (FAR) to provide small grants supporting research on Australian native birds, primarily to assist with purchase of research equipment and travel within Australia; total annual awards are limited by interest earned and will normally not exceed A$2,000. Individual grants are normally up to A$2,000 for ABSA members and A$1,000 for non-members. Eligible applicants include amateur and professional ornithological researchers with projects aligned to ABSA objectives, with preference given to Association members and first-time applicants; applications are assessed on relevance, scientific/technical merit and value for money. Applications must be submitted on the signed FAR Grant Application form as a .pdf or .doc emailed to info@absa.asn.au by 31 December for consideration, and successful grantees must report and acquit funds by December of the award year and acknowledge ABSA in resulting publications.
