African and African Diasporic Music Section Kwabena Nketia Book Prize

About this program

The Society for Ethnomusicology’s African and African Diasporic Music Section offers the Kwabena Nketia Book Prize to recognize an outstanding book or monograph on African or African diasporan music published within the previous two to three years. The biennial prize, awarded in even years, includes $200; relevant audio, visual recordings, and films may also be considered. Authors, publishers, and presses may nominate works, including self-nominations, and SEM membership is not required. Eligible submissions must be research-based, must not be edited volumes or unrevised reprints, and must be submitted as a shareable ebook or PDF to the section co-chairs by June 1 of the award year.
