AGA Young Guts Scholars Program

About this program

The American Gastroenterological Association, through the Dr. Harvey Young Education & Development Foundation, offers six 10-month Young Guts Scholars awards to support mentored undergraduate research in digestive diseases. Each recipient receives a $6,000 stipend, three-year AGA student membership, and up to $1,500 for travel to Digestive Disease Week; mentors may request up to $1,000 in laboratory support. Applicants must be U.S.-based undergraduates with at least one year of study remaining, in good academic standing, and from racial, ethnic, disability, or disadvantaged groups underrepresented in biomedical research. Applicants must secure a commitment from a dues-paying AGA member mentor for at least 12 hours of research per week and submit a proposal, mentor and faculty reference letters, personal statement, and transcript by February 3, 2027.
