Alfred Noble Prize

About this program

The Alfred Noble Prize, administered by the American Society of Civil Engineers as trustee of an endowment, awards a certificate and an annually determined honorarium for a technical paper of exceptional merit published in the technical publications of participating societies. Eligible papers must have been published in the 24‑month period ending the June before the award and nominations (including a nominator‑signed cover letter and a copy of the paper as printed) must be submitted via the ASCE nomination form and forwarded to the intersociety committee by May 1. Nominees must be members in good standing of ASCE, AIME, ASME, IEEE, or the Western Society of Engineers, and papers may have no more than two authors; the author—or, when there are two authors, the lead author—must be 35 years of age or younger at time of publication in print. If a joint paper is authored solely by individuals 35 or younger the honorarium is shared; if a coauthor is older than 35 that coauthor receives only a certificate.
