About this program
The American Folklore Society, through its Executive Board and affiliated sections, awards the $500 Américo Paredes Prize for exemplary scholarship and community engagement, teaching, or support for work conducted within one’s own culture or community. Eligible accomplishments may include publications, software, exhibits, or sustained impacts through socially engaged teaching and scholarship. Candidates are nominated through the AFS prize application form, with nominations due annually on August 15; unsuccessful nominees remain under consideration for two additional review cycles.
