APARRI Book Fellows Program

About this program

The Asian Pacific American Religions Research Initiative (APARRI) offers the 18‑month APARRI Book Fellows Program (March 2027–September 2028) to advance monographs on Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) religions by providing a $3,000 stipend, developmental editing and indexing support, cohort peer feedback, a three‑day in‑person writing retreat, travel/lodging to the 2028 APARRI conference, and up to $3,000 additional publication support for manuscripts submitted to a publisher by December 2028. The program prioritizes manuscripts on either stories of AAPI faith and life or AAPI religions and democracy and will convene two cohorts of up to five fellows for monthly virtual manuscript workshops and external reader feedback. Eligible applicants are U.S. citizens or permanent residents who hold a doctoral degree and are faculty at any rank or independent scholars working on a book‑length monograph in AAPI religious studies. Applications open August 1, 2026 and are due by 11:59 PM PT on December 15, 2026 via APARRI’s online grant system; required materials are the online form, a CV (max 5 pages), a book proposal (max 15 pages with specified subheadings), and one draft chapter.
