Arid Lands Hydraulic Engineering Award

About this program

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) offers the Arid Lands Hydraulic Engineering Award to recognize original contributions in hydraulics, hydrology (including climatology), planning, irrigation and drainage, hydroelectric development, and navigation applicable to arid or semi‑arid climates or to new technologies in river basins; the award is presented annually (may be withheld if no qualified candidates) and includes a plaque and an honorarium determined from the award endowment. Eligibility is open to individuals regardless of ASCE membership who have made noteworthy original contributions in the specified fields. Nominations require a nominator-signed cover letter, the nominee’s CV or biographical information, and two or three letters of recommendation (maximum), submitted via the ASCE nomination form on the award webpage, with the nomination deadline shown as October 1. Selection is made by the ASCE Subcommittee on Arid Lands with approval by the EWRI Awards Committee and ASCE Governing Board; nominees not selected are held over for one additional cycle, after which a new nomination package is required.
