ASA Grants to Support Projects Promoting Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art

About this program

The American Society for Aesthetics (ASA) offers up to five annual grants, ordinarily up to $5,000 each, to fund collaborative projects that advance ASA goals such as education, public understanding, research in aesthetics and the philosophy of art, support for junior scholars, diversity and outreach, and international or interdisciplinary collaboration. The Society prefers projects with broad participation and outreach (not limited to a single campus), free public events or accommodations for ASA members, and concrete steps to support gender and historically underrepresented groups.

Applicants must be current ASA members (non-members may participate in projects) and submit a proposal outlining title, goals, predicted outcomes, structure, relevant expertise/CVs, and a detailed line-item budget; ASA generally expects at least 50% cost-sharing and does not pay indirect/administrative fees. Draft applications may be submitted at any time but require at least three months for review; grantees must credit ASA in publicity and provide a detailed project report within three months of completion (or by September 1).
