ASCE Excellence in Journalism Award

About this program

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) offers the ASCE Excellence in Journalism Award to recognize outstanding English‑language, general‑interest journalism that enhances public understanding of civil engineering topics such as clean water, transportation, environment, and public works. The award, presented as a trophy and an honorarium sufficient to reimburse travel to the OPAL Awards Gala, may be given to one or more nominees across newspapers, magazines, electronic/Web outlets, and radio/TV. Eligible entries must be non‑trade pieces published or broadcast within the 12 months ending October 1 of the award year; if co‑authored at least one author must be a full‑time journalist, and current members of ASCE’s Board of Direction are ineligible. Nominations may be submitted by ASCE Sections/Branches, individual ASCE members, or the journalists themselves via the required nomination form (nomination form opens January 11; all entries due by March 3).
