ASFB Early Career Excellence Award

About this program

The Australian Society for Fish Biology (ASFB) awards the Early Career Excellence Award to an outstanding early career scientist or management practitioner whose work has fundamentally advanced the study or management of fishes; the recipient is invited to give a keynote at the next ASFB conference with full registration and up to $1,500 toward travel and accommodation. The award covers contributions across research, management and education related to fish biology, ecology, physiology, taxonomy, systematics, genetics, modelling, conservation, habitats and fisheries in marine, freshwater and estuarine systems. Eligible nominees must be current financial ASFB members with at least three years’ membership and meet the early‑career definition (under 10 years relevant full‑time experience and no more than 5 years since conferral of the last postgraduate degree, pro‑rata for part‑time/career breaks). Nominations (self or by another financial member, with a seconder) are submitted in writing to the ASFB President, must include a CV, relevant publications and evidence against the selection criteria, and are called annually (submissions by 30 June); the award may be made but is not necessarily awarded every year.
