ASHG Early Career Award

About this program

The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) offers the Early Career Award to recognize outstanding scientists within the first ten years of independent investigation in human genetics, with recipients receiving a plaque and $10,000 at the Society’s Annual Meeting. Eligible nominees must be current ASHG members who have not served as independent investigators for more than 10 years (with consideration for documented career hiatuses such as medical leave, family care, or disability), and the work submitted must be primarily the product of the nominee’s independent lab. Selection emphasizes significant impact and innovation in human genetics and a demonstrated commitment to mentoring and training the next generation of scientists. Required nomination materials include a nomination form addressing eligibility and judging criteria, the nominee’s CV, two references who respond to the criteria, and brief (≤300-word) narratives from the nominator and references explaining qualifications and any applicable career interruptions.
