ASR Distinguished Article Award (Sociology of Religion)

About this program

Association for the Sociology of Religion (ASR) presents the ASR Distinguished Article Award to the most outstanding article published in the preceding year’s volume of Sociology of Religion, recognizing exceptional contributions to the sociological study of religion; the recipient receives a certificate of honor presented at the ASR Annual Meeting opening reception (no monetary prize). Selection emphasizes scholarly quality—theoretical, empirical, and methodological rigor—and gives additional weight to the article’s significance for the sociology of religion and broader societal understandings. All articles published in the preceding year’s volume are automatically eligible; no nominations or applications are required and recipients need not be present to accept (contact: asreo@sociologyofreligion.org).
