ASTS Jon Fryer Resident Scientist Scholarship

American Society of Transplant Surgeons offers the ASTS Jon Fryer Resident Scientist Scholarship, providing $40,000 for one year to support full‑time basic and translational research or educational enrichment in transplantation and transplant immunobiology conducted in the laboratory of an ASTS member (no indirect costs). Eligible applicants are ACGME residents or individuals with an advanced professional degree (e.g., PhD, DVM, or foreign equivalent) in a transplantation‑related discipline who have completed at least two years of clinical training or one year of postdoctoral research in transplantation/transplant immunobiology and who reside in North America. Application components include a 250‑word synopsis, a 3‑page narrative plus one page of graphics, a 1‑page budget, a 1‑page autobiography, a Department Chair nomination letter guaranteeing one year of research time, an ASTS member sponsor letter, and a CV. Awardees may not receive concurrent similar support from NIH or listed societies, must attend the ASTS Award Ceremony at the American Transplant Congress, present an abstract at ATC or the ASTS Winter Symposium during or within six months of the award, submit a final report, and one scholarship is anticipated for 2026 subject to fund availability.
