Award for Excellence in Research by a Historically Excluded Person (HEP)

About this program

The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) offers the Award for Excellence in Research by a Historically Excluded Person (HEP) to recognize exceptional early- or mid-career contributions to cell biology; the winner receives $1,000, complimentary registration and abstract submission for the annual Cell Bio meeting, and an invitation to speak. Eligible applicants must be ASCB members who self-identify as a historically excluded person and are within 0–7 years (early career) or 7–15 years (mid-career) of an independent appointment. Candidates may self-nominate or be nominated and must provide a ≤2-page narrative statement, a ≤2-page letter of support (or nominator letters), and a biosketch (NIH format or similar) up to 5 pages. Selection emphasizes the candidate’s research contributions and commitment to ASCB’s vision and values; ASCB does not use journal impact factors in award evaluations.
