About this program

UConn Archives & Special Collections administers the Billie M. Levy Travel and Research Grant, awarding one competitive $4,000 fellowship annually to support travel and research in the Northeast Children’s Literature Collection, which houses 100+ creator archives and over 40,000 volumes documenting children’s book creation. Eligible applicants include scholars, researchers, and artists at any career stage whose proposed project demonstrates clear significance and a demonstrated need to consult the collection. Applications must include a brief project description (≤2 pages), a preliminary list of collections to be consulted, and a CV; fellows must be in residence for at least five full research days and complete a dissemination requirement (a 1,500‑word blog post, a 45‑minute podcast interview, or a small colloquium presentation) before funds are released. The annual deadline is January 30 for research visits scheduled March–February, with notification within six weeks.
