The American Physiological Society awards the Bodil M. Schmidt‑Nielsen Distinguished Mentor and Scientist Award to an APS member who has made outstanding contributions to physiological research and demonstrated exceptional mentorship, educational innovation, and outreach to early‑career physiologists. The award carries a $1,000 honorarium plus reimbursement of expenses up to $1,500 (maximum $2,500), is contingent on funding, and cannot be deferred. Nominees must have been APS members for at least two consecutive years and may be early‑career or established professionals; nominations only (no self‑nominations), submitted online through the APS awards site. Required nomination materials include a letter (≤5 pages) describing scientific and mentoring contributions, a list of current and former trainees with dates and current positions, the nominee’s CV, and up to seven letters of support; nominee and nominators must attend the American Physiology Summit for the award lecture and presentation.
