Bruno Nettl Prize

About this program

The Society for Ethnomusicology offers the annual Bruno Nettl Prize to recognize an outstanding publication on the history, character, methods, or broader scholarly contexts of ethnomusicology, with a $500 award. Eligible works include monographs, edited volumes, articles, book chapters, and relevant audio, visual, or film recordings published during the previous year. Self-nominations and nominations are welcome from SEM members and nonmembers, and submissions may be in English or another language; applicants may submit only one work per cycle. Applications are due April 1 through the online form, with four hard copies required for books or multimedia items.
