BSA Mid-Career Excellence in Research Award

About this program

The Botanical Society of America (BSA) offers the annual Mid-Career Excellence in Research Award, established in 2026 to recognize creative and influential scholarship across all areas of botany and demonstrated positive impacts in research, education, and service to the botanical community. Awardees are recognized at the BSA annual meeting, invited to present a special lecture at the next meeting, are strongly encouraged to submit a perspectives paper to the American Journal of Botany, and receive a $2,000 honorarium to help cover conference expenses. Applicants must be BSA members at the time of the award and be eight to sixteen years post-PhD (excluding parental or other approved non‑sabbatical leaves); nominations are closed for 2026 with the next nomination period expected to open in early 2027.
